CISA Flags “Copy Fail” Linux Flaw as Actively Exploited

CISA has added CVE-2026-31431, known as “Copy Fail,” to its catalog of actively exploited vulnerabilities. The flaw enables local privilege escalation to root across multiple Linux distributions and has affected systems since 2017. Public proof-of-concept exploits are already available in several languages, increasing the risk for cloud and containerized environments. Patches have been released, and organizations are urged to update affected systems immediately.
