Why EDR and WAF Fall Short in Stopping Modern Application Attacks
Modern attacks increasingly target the application layer, exploiting subtle flaws that evade traditional defenses. Web application firewalls operate at the perimeter and lack full context, while endpoint detection and response tools focus on the operating system without visibility into runtime application behavior. Neither can fully detect sophisticated exploits like SQL injection, deserialization flaws, or logic manipulation embedded in live code. Application Detection and Response (ADR) tools, by embedding agents inside the running application, observe context-rich behavior and can block malicious activity from within. By closing the gaps left by WAF and EDR, ADR provides the deep visibility needed to stop evolving application-layer threats before damage occurs.
